Affair Recovery Therapy
with Dr. Eli Kraiem,
Clinical Psychologist
As Seen In
For 10+ years, I've helped individuals and couples recover from infidelity, betrayal, and breaches of trust.
I am a relationship expert: I am a professor teaching couples therapy and relationship dynamics, as well as a national lecturer on couples in crises.
I hold advanced training in the Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Attachment-Based Therapy.
Have you discovered a secret that your partner had that changes how you see your relationship?
Are you questioning whether you will ever be able to trust again?
Are you the one who crossed a boundary and can't stop thinking about the damage it caused?
Maybe you're checking phones, replaying conversations, or wondering what was real and what wasn't. Or stuck between wanting to repair the relationship and wanting to walk away.
An affair, emotional connection, secret conversations, or repeated betrayals are often symptoms of something deeper. Disconnection. Shame. Unspoken needs. Attachment wounds. Old patterns that neither person sees.
Clients Come To Me When They:
Discovered an affair or other breach of trust
Have trust issues
Are feeling hypervigilant
Chronically check their partner’s phone
Are fearful of disclosing something to their partner
Keep secrets from their partner
Feel guilt or shame
Don't know what comes next

Affair Recovery With Me
Recovery requires more than deciding to love each other again. It takes structure, insight, and honest conversations about what happened and why.
I have developed a 4-stage recovery model for infidelity
Ground the relationship. After a betrayal, most couples are emotionally flooded. We slow things down, reduce escalation, and create enough stability to begin working productively.
Make meaning of what happened. We explore the factors that contributed to the betrayal, what was happening for each partner, and what was missing or left unsaid.
Decide on a path forward. Some couples want to rebuild. Some are unsure. Others need clarity before making any decisions. Therapy creates space to explore those questions honestly.
Build a new relationship. The goal is not to recreate what existed before. The goal is to create a healthier, more sustainable relationship with secure attachment patterns and stronger emotional connection.
Once we understand your patterns,
we begin changing them.
Approaches I Use in Therapy
-
Helps partners understand the emotions underneath conflict and reconnect through vulnerability rather than defensiveness.
-
Provides practical tools for rebuilding trust, improving communication, and creating healthier relationship habits.
-
Helps uncover the attachment wounds and relationship patterns that influence trust, closeness, and conflict.
-
Explores internal conflicts, unconscious fear, needs, and desires, and how past experiences influence current relationship expectations and reactions.
-
Identifies thinking patterns that fuel shame, fear, blame, or hopelessness and helps create healthier responses.
-
Strengthens emotional regulation and distress tolerance during highly emotional periods.
-
Helps partners take accountability, communicate more directly, and break destructive relationship dynamics.
From Crisis To Connection

A clear path forward
My approach to Affair Recovery isn’t ‘just love each other again.’
Affair recovery takes more than willpower. It takes self-understanding and healing what’s beneath the surface.
About Dr. Eli Kraiem
My therapy is designed for people facing relationship crises, betrayal, and difficult decisions. I combine deep emotional work with practical strategies so that insight turns into meaningful change.
Clients tell me they appreciate that I don't just sit back and ask how that feels. I'm compassionate, but I'm also direct.
If I see a pattern keeping you stuck, I'll point it out. If I think you're avoiding something important, we'll talk about it.
Together, we'll explore the deeper emotional dynamics while also making concrete changes that improve your relationship.
In addition to my clinical work, I'm an adjunct professor teaching couples and relationship therapy and I lecture nationally on infidelity, betrayal, and trust. I also supervise other therapists working with couples.
Outside the therapy office, I'm married with two children and live on Manhattan's Upper East Side. I enjoy music and singing, mindfulness and meditation practices, and exploring the intersection of psychology and spirituality.
Availability: I provide in-person therapy in New York City, and telehealth sessions for clients throughout the states of New York, New Jersey, and Florida.
